Theme Parks
In recent years, there has been a need for family entertainment in Bali. This need has been realized through various theme parks which thrill and enchant people of all ages.
Waterbom Park
Waterbom park is an excellent venue for both adults and children, where one can choose from different water slides such as the Lazy River, Jungle Ride, raft river and the Race Track. the sports- minded can indulge in table tennis, volleyball, badminton or bowls and kids will enjoy the Kiddy Park where they can meet the park mascot, "Bomduck". Visitors can relax bay a pool featuring underwater music and a swim-up bar, which is set in beautifully landscaped garden.
There are two restaurants serving Western, Asian and Italian cuisine. One can also grab a bite of authentic Indonesian "fast food" at the "kaki lima". Water-boom Spa, set in a tropical garden, is a recent addition to the park. Featuring four private massage pavilions, a Jacuzzi and a Moroccan tea lounge, the spa has a separate entrance and some treatments include a free pass to the Parks facilities.
Umalas Stable
Located in Kerobokan in Kuta and surrounded bay beautiful paddy terraces, Umalas Stable offers horse riding, riding lessons at all levels as well as tours. Experienced instructors, well trained horses and the latest riding and safety equipment are provided. the dressage, lunging and show jumping lessons are conducted in a riding hall and outside arena measuring 25 x 25 meters. There are three different tours: one-hour rice field tour, two-hour beach tour, and three-hour beach tour. Umalas Stable comes with six villas overlooking a beautiful garden, a restaurant serving international cuisine, children playground, a free-style swimming pool and a souvenir shop.
Taman Burung Bird Park
The Taman Burung Bird Park, situated in Batubulan, is home to more than a thousand birds from Indonesian and all over the world. Set in magnificent gardens filled with tropical plants and water features, it has a restaurant for visitors to have breakfast or afternoon tea with birds.
Next door is the Bali Reptile Park housing a collection of Komodo Dragon, snakes, turtles, monitor lizards and iguanas. Another reptile park is Indonesia Jaya Reptile and Crocodile Park, located in Mengwi. Shows featuring snakes, crocodiles and traditional magic are held daily.
Taman Kupu-Kupu
If you like gentler species, go to Taman Kupu-Kupu (butterfly park) in Tabanan. Having over 3,500 square meters of enclosed gardens, it is the largest park of its kind in South East Asia and is the only such park in Bali. Home to a myriad species of butterflies, Taman Kupu-Kupu has a breeding program to preserve butterflies in Indonesia. The park was established as a natural habitat to preserve butterflies as well assist in the stopping go the black market trade of endangered species. For the stout-hearted, a wide range of exciting adventure and amusement re also available in Bali, with something new opening all the time.
The Bali Barat National Park
A protected reserve, has an area of over 750 square km and is definite worth a safari. Within its boundaries, its geography is a mix of rain forests, mangroves, dry mountainous regions and the coral reefs of Pulau Menjangan. The park is home to the endangered Bali Starling, rare wild buffalo, monkeys, wild deer and civet. Visitors have limited access to some trails with
the park. You must be accompanied by a guide and have an entry permit which can be obtained as a formality at the National Park headquarters.
Camels
Camels don't usually spring to mind when you think of Bali, but they are here! Take one for a leisurely stroll on the beach near the Nikko Hotel.
Elephant Safaris
Elephant Safaris are also available at Taro, 20 minutes north of Ubud. The elephants are from Sumatra and the ride through relatively untouched forest lasts 30-40 minutes.
